It might be a good plot if people believed it.  Sleeping pills generally don't put you to sleep unless you're ready and willing to go to sleep.  All commercial planes that transport people fly with at least one co-pilot, and then you have to get past the automatic pilot.  It doesn't sound like a well thought out plot IMO.

I understand your points, but I think it could work in a soap opera because such shows often have unbelievable plots.
