If the machine is belt driven, and most of them have belts somewhere, then I'd check to see if maybe the belt is slipping.

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then that makes me a burning truck filled with TNT hurtling through a rocket fuel depot.

Have you checked your stash? I once had this problem and found out that the leprechauns were smoking, then jumping in for a spin. I should have not said anything. They moved out and took the pot of gold. Acapulco.

Seriously, I can't think of any other reasons than a belt. If it were a motor, it would not have lasted over a cycle or two.
