Slightly Insane???

Suppose you have met someone that makes you tremendously happy.  Your life is full of joy with their presence.  You've only known each other for three months.  The topic of marriage comes up quite accidentally.  The conversation ends with the two of you discussing it as a reality with a wedding date set in the not-so-distant future.

Would you get married?

Or is my best friend losing his mind?

I would wait for a lot longer before actually getting married. It's ok to talk about it but marriage is not something that should be rushed. You will know in time if he is the one you should marry.I don't think he's insane just likes you a lot.

I know couples who have been happily married for years who only knew each other for a few months before taking the leap. I personally would wait longer. Even if they are eager to get married, there is no reason to rush. They could set a date and make it a year from when they have the discussion in order to give themselves time to really get to know one another. I still believe in love at first meeting!

Knowing what I know about marriage now, I would lock my friend up in the basement and throw away the key.  Marriage is hard work.  It is so easy to get carried away in all the romance of a new relationship, but the reality of marriage is vastly different from the fairy tales.  Tell your friend to slow down and really get to know this girl.  Tell him that waiting a year will only bring them closer together. Tell him whatever you have to tell him to make him postpone the marriage for a while.

Two thumbs up for my friend Skitch!!

What is important in this relationship is the energy between you two and the love you share with this person. Marriage in itself is the 'topping' on a relationship that has been worked on and learned from. It is a mistake to get married and then start learning who each other is. That is one big reason why so many marriages fail. Be patient. Learn who each other is. There is no need to  'dive' into something that could very possibly create stress in a very new relationship. Take a deep breath and relax.

i would take time to get to know the person longer than 3 months to decide to talk of marriage

I met my husband in November, he bought me and engagement ring in December, and we were married in May. He is my absolute best friend. We were both in our late 20's and had our own lives established we met and clicked. The situation depends on the two people but just because it happened so quickly doesnt mean its not real. Since we have been married, 4 years, my oldest son was killed in an accident and he has lost both of his parents due to illness. There is absolutely no way we could have made it through these times without someone there to hold us up, and thats what we do for each other.
