I first took the Silva Method about 35 years ago. The basic premise is teaching a person to go to a deeper level of consciousness in order to access inner awareness, be more psychic, health and healing, re-progam your subconscious and controling habits. At the end of a course one may experience psychic ability because of techniques learned. The course was offered free to doctors and nurses, as I recall, since it was quite new and Jose Silva wanted to share this with Medical practicioners. A layman could re-do or go for refresher courses after paying for the course-for a lifetime. We learned how to control pain, improve memory, cure insomnia and be able to see where a problem was developing-diagnosis-etc. It involved how to count down to a deeper level, visualizing and we did this in a certain manner. It was mostly about self-hypnosis, yet included more. It was ethical and we  could not help others against their will-or manipulate others. The name of the course, Silva Mind Control has since changed to The Silva Method because of the negative conotation-such as controling other people.  We were warned that it would backfire if used negatively. I recently bought a book on The Silva Method-involving healing, and it helped me recall some things "lost in time." The course was educational and fun as there was feed back and discussion time with other people. I cannot say how it may have changed, as it has been a few years since going to a refresher course.
