Signing on to AOL Instant MESSENGER for first time

just signed up for AOL IM    now when I try to sign in, it says username or password incorrect.    I can sign in to AOL Help, using this username and password, just not to AOL Instant Messenger.  I have tried resetting password, but that doesn't help either.
