I am shipping a container to Mytilini, Greece ...

I am shipping a container to Mytilini, Greece using a shipping company in new York. My receipt states that I have paid in full to have the container delivered to Mytilini. Today I received a call from the shipping companies representative in Pireaus, Greece stating that I needed to send them and additional $700 for the port authority in pireaus before my container can be sent on to Mytilini and that I need to notify the customs people in Mytilini that the container will be arriving. Is this legit or am I being taken for more money.

Kasheeran,  It is probably legit.  You paid in full for the transportation of your container.  You did not pay anything yet to all of the customs people.  Yes, you have to pay custom fees to every country your container passes through.  The fees are assessed according to the value of what you are shipping.  So be prepared to buck up, and have a happy new year!
