From a document I found on the web that appears to be his family tree it shows him passing away back on the 24th of August in 1990.  It also has a few notes about his Vietnam service as well in there:  http://www.dunnuck.com/l.html  I believe he has surviving offspring.

All personnel receive a Form DD-214 (Separation document) at discharge. It will detail all overseas duty, disciplinary action, decorations, clearance, etc. If your man cannot produce that DD-214 then he is probably not telling the truth.

Yes there is a Mil Site to contact.. I belong to it as a dependent..they will check you out, and you have to fill some info.. Sweet G

Vietnam years

Contact your old unit (unless it has been decommissioned) and ask for "Unit diary excerpts" detailing who was also in your unit when you served. In that we're talking 44 years, it may be difficult to get these records. Persevere!
