Military "dog tags" are official personnel identification issued ONLY to active duty military personnel.

Civilians in possession of this identification, or any other form of military ID, can be charged with espionage if circumstances warrant.

If you need to replace your issued military dog tags, you must contact your Unit Diary Clerk, fill out two forms, and explain to your OIC why you compromised ANY sort of military ID. That can be good for a Summary Court Martial.

The combination of a military green card, with confirming dog tags, will get you on base but not into classified areas. When the MP's run your ID and it comes up bogus, expect to spend a long time behind bars. It is that serious a matter these days.

The military does not adhere to civilian law. They don't have to. When you step on a military base you are no longer under civilian jurisdiction. You have willingly consented to military jurisdiction.

That my friend makes perfect sense. There have been companies that offer to "duplicate" dog tags, and they likewise run foul of the National Security Act. Leave official Military ID for the military, if you know what is healthy.
