Service engine soon light

I have a 1998 ford taurus and I just had annual maintenence done on it, oil change, tune up and things of that nature, the car runs great, but I went to pump gas into it and before the attendant put the gas cap back on, I started the car, now my service engine soon light is on, I made certain the gas cap was on correctly, but the light is still on. I brang it into a service shop and they tell me, it is nothing, next time don't start my car until the gas cap is closed, I am worried that even though my car drives great, there might be more of a problem in the future, I want to fix things now before they get out of hand, the only thing is I don't know what to fix

The "Service Engine Soon" light is not a warning of anything wrong. It comes on by itself every so often. It is just a reminder to service your auto. If you look in your owner's manual, it will tell you how to turn this light off.

The computor is confused.  We had an older Torus with the same problem and found that we needed to ignore the light.  Finally it turned itself out.

There is a gasket in the gas cap to keep the fumes in the tank when the gas slops around replace the cap then pull your battery cable off and let the computer reset itself overnight and your lite will be off and should be ood to go

The wattage would be identical but add the number of Lumens for each bulb to get the actual usable light output. Note that compact flourescents(CFL) and LED bulbs will produce more light than incandescents.

Disable Mercury 'check engine' light?

try disconect the battery for about 10 min if that dont work remove the bulb
