The Sargasso Sea which is in the midst of the Atlantic Ocean, has no known land-boundaries.  Also known as " the sea of weeds" it is said to have been first reported by Christopher Columbus, who encountered it on his first voyage of Discovery, in 1492. Early European mariners reported that the weed was so thick that ships came to a stop, and might even be doomed to remain forever , trapped in the weed.
