Before you declare a major for your MS, consider three fields that are always bright for good chemists:

Chemical engineering: fuels, plastics, and sorbents will always be in demand.

Forensics: there are umpteen labs looking for criminal investigators and post-accident chemists.  Any major city has a police department and they will always need people.

Medicine: the humdrum routine of a hospital laboratory may be dull, but you will be saving lives and there are always openings.
