This card falls at the top of Jerome's spread and is extremely unsettling, for it shows the worst limitation that a person can face: a loss of reasoning ability.  Wands indicate wisdom: made of living wood, they sprout when planted. 

 

Four is the number of truly perverse obstinacy.  Eight is obstinacy added to obstinacy itself.  This person, while irrational, is so stubborn that improvement is both desperately needed and completely out of the question.

 

 

Here we see eight wands in the descent of a long flight, losing energy and will hit the ground but not the target.  This person has sent out all his best ideas and they fell in the wrong place for he failed to aim them correctly.  Now, he is out of original ideas and is down to one issue only, never one creative or insightful thought. 

 

This is the beginning of irreversible senility, after a lifetime of failed bad ideas and misguided effort.  This person has reached the limit of their abilities and is desperate, but unwilling to accept priceless wise counsel because of his double-obstinacy.

 

It is worse that this card appears where it does, because this card implies the termination of wisdom and the severest of limits also.  The fact that Jerome has two standard posts that both center on racism and the tragedy in Japan proves the tarot reading correct thus far.

 

Any change would be an improvement.
