When it is all said and done . . ..

Background:

We all face a conclusion.  I look back on a life of adventure, mountaintop experiences, the heights of joy and the pit of fear.  I have no regrets.  The grim reaper isn't evil.

Somewhere along the line we see how finite life is and the infinite spread of eternity.  It is an unnerving thought.  Were I to lose my nerve I suppose I could hide my face from it, but many have gone this way before.  Why should I be different?

The only thing we take with us is our memories.  It is all we need.

Question:

When you look back and sum it all up, what are your thoughts?

My husband, Mike, asked me to pick up his email.  We are grateful for your prayers.  Mike gave us all a very bad scare.  I thought we were going to lose him!  He will return home with us to Rochester once the radiology team here says he is fit to leave but he won't live much longer.  He wanted to be at home with us.

I feel a bit jealous of you.  While he was gone at that pesthole in the desert he spent more time with you than he did with me.  The wife of a physicist is never certain that her husband will come back.  Even so I could not have respected him had he been a coward.

Life is uncertain.  All we have is each other.

Even light will bend to do our bidding if we apply force correctly. The lowest servant in Heaven is still in Heaven, whoever rules in hell is still in hell, but they won't rule for long. No man stands taller than when he stoops to help a little child.

I have no fear of death, though I'm not finished with life. I find that it's not the things I've done i regret. It's those things I haven't done and should have. I've lived a pretty full life and I'm reasonably happy and content. There are still things i want, but if I'm meant to have them, they'll come. I've made most of my dreams come true. What more could one ask.

He'll have my prayers. And as someone who once lived in, and loves Japan deeply, they've had my prayers from the beginning.

Well, it's not just me. If you look at the comments on my answer above there are a couple others who have prayers and best wishes. I'm glad he'll be able to come home. I'm sorry he doesn't have much time. He and I rarely agreed, but I will miss him when he's gone. My best to you and the rest of your family as well. He's a good man.

I can see that the recent injury The Rock has suffered has caused some concern.  I can see why.  He and I have had an ongoing discussion for the last two years.  I feel that I have come to know him somewhat.  If memory serves he served as a Marine sniper so he knows the meaning of life and death, having gone through the "perfect moment" numerous times.

The "moment of truth" is when we lay down all pretense of bravado, cowardice, faith, doubt, love, hate, and all that ties us to this world.

Death is a time when we surrender back to our Creator all that He loaned us for a short little while.  That doesn't make it any easier to say goodbye, but ponder also, what would you have done in his place?

He rose to his best self and willingly took his life in his hands to save others.  The Rock would not have done so recklessly or without a plan.  He would have weighed the issue and found the course ahead, not to his liking, but necessary.

Having weighed his decision he carried it through.

Eventually we all do the same.

Let us pray for The Rock and his family.

It may be an old situation but I believe it is the way The Rock wanted it to be.  Don't deny him his destiny.

In Jesus' Name, I bid you peace.
