One needs to firstly practice equivalent to the marathon amount of miles and then accordingly building up your stamina and physical endurance for the marathon. It is important that one reaches to a level where he/she can stand to any kind of fatigues and tiredness. One should have rich protein diet which would help the person grow better muscles and he/she should drink loads of water.

Getting from point A to point B 26 miles away takes more determination than physical conditioning.  Learning how to soldier on regardless the pain and lack of wind makes the difference.
