If you start running for the police, they have a right to shoot you in the foot, or whatever it takes to stop you.  Especially if you have committed a crime and they consider you dangerous, they even have the right to shoot to kill.  It's pretty much a bad idea in general to run, because your charges will always be a lot stronger, and you will appear guiltier.

I would not recommend running from the police.  They will chase you, even worse if they have a K-9 unit near by, they will dispatch the k-9 and you do not want to be hunted down and attacked by a k-9.  They are faster and smarter than you.  Always remember, police radios are faster than a man on foot or in a car.  Don't run.  You also do not have to answer any questions for the police either.  Remember you have the right to counsel.  You can say, "I want to talk to an attorney".  They can only take you in, book you and let you see your attorney.  This is the best way if you have broken the law.  Don't talk, don't run, ask to talk to an attorney.  If you do not have an attorney, one will be appointed for you.  This is part of your 8th amendment rights.
