The  role  of  an  encoder/ sender  is  to  send  the  message.  This  is  where  the  message  is  created,  and  is  sent  from  this  particular  person.  The   role  of  the  decoder/ receiver  is  to  actually  obtain  this  message  from  the  encoder/  sender,  and  possibly  reply.
