Failure to serve in Vietnam is neither the question nor a disqualification.  His failure to correct the impression or even encourage the impression that he served in Vietnam when he had not is the crucial character flaw question and disqualifying condition.

It seems more and more that this kind of behavior is termed 'embellishment' and treated as 'only em........', while those who really served are still gun-shy about their honorable service because that service has been belittled in the past.  Put him into a membership meeting with 'his' local VFW to speak his answer.
