How can I retrieve my expired Morecroft Debt recovery Reference number "Data protection act 1998"?

How can I retrieve my expired Morecroft Debt recovery Reference number? As my account has been settled they claim they can't access my old details as I cleared my Debt. Am I within my wright under the "Data protection act 1998" to receive there information they hold on me? 

Unfortunately I binned all my old paperwork from them a few months back but now release I was paying PPI on my Loan for the whole 9 ish years. Naturally there not willing to help, neither will Direct line who originally I took the Loan out with? What can I do? Thanks.
