If you have a manual for the dishwasher, read it.  If you don't have a manual, write down the model and you may be able to locate a manual on the Maytag web site.

Just as a guess, you may have a partially clogged drain.  If you have an air gap, unscrew it to see if there is something in it.  And check inside the dishwasher to see if there is something in the drain like a fork or lettuce leaf.
