I just rescued an 8 wk old terrier mix. I am unsure of his background ,but know that he def came from a neglectful situation. I've had him for 2 days now, and right away took him to the vet to make sure he had a clean bill of health- all is well. I am currently crate training him. And he is actually doing very well with housebreaking. He's had a couple accidents but only a few. I feed him 4 times throughout the day on schedule, and always potty him after he eats, wakes and finishes playing. He ALWAYS goes pee , but he has not pooped outdoors at all. At least not in the 3 days I've had him. I should add he hasn't pooped indoors either. Tonight he finally squatted to go, and I went to go praise him, but I think it was too soon because he immediately got up and stopped. I stood outside for another 30 min with him... and nothing. Any suggestions? Also I understand that a puppy not going to the bathroom is a concern, and I intend to call the vet in the a.m. He isn't showing any other signs of health problems - so I THOUGHT perhaps he is scared to go (?) So perhaps it's a behavioral thing(?) Please any suggestions are welcome . Thanks in advance :)
It's quite early for the pup to be predictable. He may be constipated from the type of food. Speak to the vet, maybe you can paper train him for pooping indoors when he feels like.
