Repairs for weak abdominal rectus muscle

I had diverticulitis and subsequently two invasive abdominal surgeries.   I now have an apparently very weak rectus muscle causing my stomach to appear as though I am VERY pregnant! What exercises and/or surgeries can flatten my abdomen?

Take it easy with the exercises. You do not want to do too much lower abdominal work too soon. Getting lower abdominal strength needs concentration on an abs diet and lower ab workouts. Go to Lower Ab Workouts for more info

I have a very similar situation.  The doctors say that the abdominal muscles were cut for surgery and no amount of exercising will impove the situation and could in fact cause serious harm if too strenuous.  After three years of trying different light to moderate exercises for the abdominal area, I sad to say that I finally agree with them.

I am not overweight and am very phisically fit but the only way for me to affect the bulge favorably is to be underweight.  If I stay 10 to 15 pounds under where I like to be, the bulge doesn't look as bad.

When others respond with answers of exercise or certain "healthy" diets to improve the situation, I know that they have never personally had this problem.

I agree with Dave, my bowel operation was 14 months ago and I can't get rid of that bulging stomach. I will try what he said and lose some weight. What I need is one of those old fashioned corsets!
