If it is just a small hole, just fill the hole with some cement mix and level it off.  What I think you have is a chipped corner, which is somewhat tricky.  Prep is the most important part of the repair.  Chip some of the slope off and try to get a little bit of flat space.  Drill some holes in to the damaged step and either use TapCon screws or put a molly in leaving a half incl or more of the screw top exposed.  You should then use some cement bonder and apply it to the damaged atep.  You should box or frame the damaged step and then fill it it with cement mix, not morter mix.

How can I repair a broken garden hose?

If you take it to a large hardware store, they may be able to sell you a replacement connector that clamps on. If you have a hole 10 feet from the end of a 50 foot hose, you could wind up with a 40 foot hose. I did that once, and it was never quite right. My choice would be to buy a new hose.
