They might be  reading the scripture in the OT about Women to be silent in the Church.

Many, maybe even all Middle Eastern and African religions are strictly patriarchal.-

Goes back to very old traditions when the woman's place was seen to be in the home. (Unfortunately still current in many otherwise modern Eastern countries) Cool
