Your question implies that your belief as is will never allow you to speak to them. “A lost loved one“; a loved one is never lost. As for being dead, this to is also lacking, the living soul cannot speak to the dead. What I am saying is, that we are all Spirits with bodies not bodies with Spirits.
The body with the breath of Life in it is a soul, and a body without that breath of Life is a corpse, a dead body. But that Life spirit only left the body, not the Spiritual Universe. That loved one still is and you can talk to any and all loved ones through your own Life spirit, just as you have your own internal commentary with Spirit you can speak to the Spiritual Universe in like manner. Although you may believe that you are separated from our Source (the Spiritual Universe), although this can never be, your loved one is not.
