I am not sure you should trust what he is telling you. I have been in a relationship for two years and recently -- as in a WEEK ago -- found out that my boyfriend has been LYING to me from the beginning. I feel betrayed, because he knows my opinions towards lying. Some advice, since there are a total of four children involved, please, please make sure you know what you both are doing.
