I'm pretty sure that if a judgment lien has been filed against you, you will be notified by certified mail. But I'd suggest calling your local sheriff's office to confirm that.

But if one calls the sheriff's office to confirm it, is that the same as accepting the judgement against you and therefore being served?  What happens if you do call and they state you do have a judgement?

I'm not 100% sure if you do confirm on the phone that a lien has been filed that it's the same as being "served." I think whether you have accepted "service" of the lien or not, it is filed and will be taken into account when dealing with any property/financial matters. So it would most likely be better to know whether or not there is a lien against you or not.

In any event, I'd suggest contacting an attorney to find out what your legal rights are if there is a lien against you.
