There are some missing signs.  I'm guessing that you mean (x^2-4)/(x^2+4x+4) where both numerator and denominator can be factored as

(x+2)(x-2)/((x+2)(x+2)) which simplifies to (x-2)/(x+2)

How do you solve 3/4(x+8)=1/2x+3.5

I hope that you mean: (3/4)*(X+8) = (1/2)*X + 3.5 If that is what you mean than: Multiply both sides by 4 to get (the puppose is to get rid of the fractions..... make life easier): 3*(X+8) = 2*X + 14 3X + 24 = 2X + 14 3X - 2X = 14 -24 X = -10
