What is the best racing game of all time?

 

Is it one of the earlier Need for Speed games or realistic simulation racing games such as Forza or Gran Turismo? What about racing games based on other sports such as marathon or horse racing?

I know it's not a traditional answer, but my favorite racing game is Secretariat: Ride the Legend which is one of the best horse racing games you'll ever find.

This question requires a rather subjective answer, consequently I have to say the essentially British form of horse racing known as "steeplechase" has to be the most dangerous, lengthy and physically demanding race, if not pure sport, of all time. Equestrian "cross country" would have been my choice; it's as grueling as a sport can get. But the danger of competing in a crowd vs. singly ups the ante. Happy Trails!
