how did pythagoras help math

Hi -- Pythagoras was a philosopher in Greece more than 2,000 years ago.  He came up with the pythagorean theorem.  This says that in a right-angled triangle the area of the square on the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares of the other two sides—that is, a2 + b2 = c2.  This works for any size right triangle.  Need more math help?  Start here: juniorhighmath.com.
