First thing...NO PUPPY should be allowed to breed at their first heat which is normally from 6 to 12 months old.

Then you have to consider what breed of dog, for example a great dane which may not reach maturity until 14-18 months.

Then consider the millions of unwanted dogs & cats currently in shelters and after all of that call your vet for an appointment to have your pet spayed.

A dog or cat can get pregnant as early as 4-7 months old, which is like a 10 or 11 year-old girl getting pregnant.  Spay the dog now.  If you can't afford it, there are several low-cost agencies that will help you.  If you think it's a great idea to breed your dog, go to any shelter and see how many animals are euthanized because there are not enough homes.  Better yet, if you think it's a good idea to breed your dog, personally pick five or six dogs to be killed to make room for the five or six you are responsible for bringing in to the world.  Watch them be killed and be sure to notice the pile of dead dogs.  If you think the "miracle of birth" is so great, you need to see the "reality of death."

Dear Puppy Lover,

If you truly love puppies PLEASE do not breed your dog.  Protect her health and avoid unwanted pregnancies by having her spayed.  If cost is an issue, every city that I know of has some sort of spay/neuter program that is either low or no cost.  (I'll even help you find a program if you'd like to get back to me.)

Then, when your current puppy is grown up, if you still want a puppy again, please identify if you have the time and financial rescources to properly care for your new baby.  (Standard vet costs like vaccinations, spay/neuter cost, feeding, etc.)  If you are able to manage the time and the money required, then look into the fantastic resources for adoption. Don't believe that SPCA's, Humane Societies, and City/County Pounds are the best or the only option!!!  There are countless nonprofit rescues and shelters with wonderful animals.  You can find them in your State by simply Googling "Dog rescues shelters Pennsylvania", for example.

I work with many animal welfare nonprofit agencies and know the tragedy of the euthanization level in our Country.  I beg you to be part of the solution and not the problem.  The Humane Society Web site will give you all the information that you need if you have questions about the nasty business of managing domestic pet overpopulation.

Good luck to you.

i have a pomeranian she is  6 months old

You should wait to breed her till after her second heat, but before you do you should research all the whelping you can, things like the cord wrapping around the neck, or getting stuck in the canal. you dont want a baby or mommy hurt, also dont over breed her let her breed every other heat or so. and make sure your able to find good homes, once she starts having problems or she gets close to 5 years old fix her. if you dont have the marketing to sell them, or have trouble finding homes fix her. and if you are going to breed, which is an awesome experance, make sure you give back, what i do is work some sundays volenteer all day at a human center to help out cleaning, and offer discounts to those who do adopt. as far as bringing more puppies into the world, its poeple who are the problem, they are the ones dumping or abusing them, so as long as you make sure they are cared for, for the rest of there life, then theres no problem, but if your going to enjoy them and the puppies, its only right to give back.
