How do i get my puppies to stop jumping on me and ...

Hi,
You can't expect your puppies behave like adult dogs.... they are babies and babies have to learn.  You have 2B pacient with them, give them lots of love, never loose your patience....  However, tell them firmly and consistently that you don't like it (instinctively they'll know, by your voice tune, what you like and what not).  It is a slow process.  The progress will be gradual.  At the end they will learn. 
Puppies are great fun..... however they are unexpected (might try do do unbelivable things).

P.S. - Be prepared to some bites, damage to your: shoes,
         furniture. garden.... A puppy "ate" my portable radio.....

I am lol-ing  they already ate my garden and a chair, I know they cant be expected to act like adult dogs , i was just curious on how to train them not to jump so much, as far as biting etc.. im all bit up but its ok. I love animals, I just never had 2 puppies at the same time.Also have a 7 yr old who isnt feeling very well and another person reccommended i take her to the vet which i am shes gonna be seen in about an hour.. thank you for your input... any ideas on how to help them not fight over food?

A good thing to do is have a sound other than no to reprimand with...my grandmother always said ooot to us and my sister and I also use it with any kids or dogs.  It gets their attention.  I frequently also put my index finger out toward the animal not pointing but like I was telling them 1 minute.  It is a visual block to go with the sound.  I used it when I worked as an animal handler in a wildlife park.  I had a bear cub and a young artic fox I handled that I used it with.  I tried with the skunk but their vision is so poor the visual didn't work...just the sound did.  They quickly learned that the ooot sound meant stop.  If I yelled no they really knew they were in trouble.  But yelling is not a good idea it can cause panic.  Also grunting sounds are similar to what the animals parent would do. 

 I had a dog that jumped as a pup and I would put a harness on him and if he started to jump I tugged it downward...and said sit.  He very quickly learned that if he walked up and sat I gave a pat, good boy and positive things.  The tug along with the ooot (or aaaat)  was not pleasant because I would scold then ignore.  He wanted the praise and attention.

Puppies are exhausting but great fun.  I agree with the other poster that you have to be patient with puppies.  It takes a while for them to learn.  Also, you cant expect them to behave like adult dogs.  They are puppies!  Aside from that, there is a basic way to teach puppies to stop jumping. 

First, make sure you teach them to sit.  And give them treats and praise them every time they sit on command.  When you come in the house, hold up the treats and say "sit!"  They should all be so eager to get the treats that they will sit right away and you should give them the treats once they are sitting and praise them.  ("good sit") 

If they are still jumping, turn your back to them and ignore them until they sit.  Everytime they jump on you or others, tell them to sit.  DO NOT PET THEM UNTIL THEY SIT.  This has to be all the time.  They will learn that jumping is not ok, but that they get treats and praise for being good and sitting!

It takes a long time to train puppies not to jump up on people. If you fold your arms and turn away from them and refuse to make a fuss of them until they stop jumping they will eventually get the message.

Owners try what they can to stop this jumping behavior, but it usually entails shouting or screaming, which tends to excite the culprit (your dog) even further, and the dog learns nothing. The good news is that this behavior can actually be eliminated completely in a week or less. Remember to communicate at all times that jumping up is not acceptable behavior. Try the following technique with your puppies:

1. As the puppy starts to jump up on you, turn sideways and either extend your leg or lean over, giving a "body block" with your hip. Remember that your dog's goal in jumping is to place her paws on you, so if she never gets to do that, in effect, she's lost and you've won.

2. When your dog is down on the floor (with all four feet), immediately squat down and pat her. She will soon learn that sitting quietly will get her the attention she craves.

3. One of the easiest commands to teach a dog is "sit." Be patient and consistent with your jumping pup and by the time she is an adult she should be sitting sweetly for you.
