I worked as an undertaker's assistant for a time, so bodies don't really phase me. The worst thing about a body is the smell. It's not something you ever forget. And i still can't handle the smell of formaldehyde very well. But there's nothing to be frightened of. They just meat. Well, okay, bodies fart, a lot. And they can jerk around, even sit up. This is all due to gases escaping the body and stray galvanic responses causing the muscles to jerk. Those of us who had been there a while would have newbies go into the cold room for some excuse. Then one or more of the bodies would fart or burp or jerk. I know it sounds terrible, but at the time it was hilarious.

I don't see many reasons for you to worry about this fear. I mean, how many times in a normal person's life do they encounter dead bodies? But you might be advised to seek some therapy to discover why you developed this fear. No doubt some childhood even that you've forgotten. That childhood stuff can do weird things. I mean, I used to be afraid of mortuaries. Just an unreasoning fear. It was weird because I grew up with a graveyard as my back yard. I've never been afraid of the dead. And I've been in the wrong place at the wrong time to have to see horrible accidents and people dying right in front of me. Too damn many times. But I was afraid of mortuaries. No idea why, but that's the reason I worked at a mortuary, to get over that fear. Not a method I'd advise. I'm just weird.

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then that makes me a burning truck filled with TNT hurtling through a rocket fuel depot.

Although a corpse is not the most pleasant thing to be around, there's no reason to fear one.  When was the last time you saw on the news that anyone was killed or injuried by a dead person?  The live people are the ones you have to look out for.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

As suggested; the dead can't hurt you - unless you come across one that's disease-ridden and full of gas so as to explode and cover you with contagious matter. 

 

That's why dead bodies are evicerated and internal gas-creating internals removed in the the morgue or during the autopsy, before being placed in a coffin.

 

Is that Youtube video still up, with that German guy hacking up a corpse. Might be worth a look.

Are you expecting to encounter many corpses in your life? Corpses give most people the creeps. No biggie unless you plan on being a mortician or an EMT or a coroner or something like that.
