The Depression lasted from October, 1929 thru all of 1939, with a gradual return starting about 1938. The U S economy didn't completely recover until 1941. The sitting president at the beginning was Herbert Hoover (1929-1933). Then Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-1945).
