You might possibly be referring to A Child Is Born by Lennart Nilsson.

I had a copy of that when I was expecting my first child (born in 1981). I think it turned out to be my favorite pregnancy/parenting book. So much so, that I purchased a used copy of the very same book for my daughter when she was expecting.

(It has been updated since then, but I found I did not care for the newer versions.)
