Potential Long Distance relationship...

My boyfriend will be going away in sept. to grad school for a year and a half. I am worried that our relationship will not endure the long distance (5hrs). I love him dearly, but don't want to set myself up for heartbreak. I don't know what to do. Please help. Any advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi, I just want to say that some long distance relationships can work.  Think of families in the military, husband and wives.  Some don't work, but most relationships I know of do work.  There have been a great deal of separations I've seen throughout my 17 years, and it can work.  I too have experienced a successful relationship from afar. My husband could not travel overseas, due to assignment reasons, and his protection so he remained and I went alone. But it work!  I cannot put into words how to tell you how you can make your relationship work, but just know that it can.  I did, however, manage to find  written works to help you survive a long distance relationship.  At the bottom of the article list are additional links informing you how you can have a successful long distance relationship and how to make it work.  Hang in there!

I'll search, while you wait.

Hi,

You are standing in front of a common problem many relationships encounter. Ye there are many relationships that that did survive overseas . Yours is peanuts compared. I guess the best advise is to try it out no rules in Love. It could work out great and even help develop a healthier relationship or you can end up heartbroken unfortunately. Follow your gut feeling , if you feel he will be faithful towards you and you trust him go for it. If you are really afraid and you think you are better off alone then end it. You can always try a year and a half later.

Seems like you have reservations already about this. You say you love him dearly, does he feel the same way? Sure it can work, it may not be easy but anything worth having never is.Don't give up with the first time you can't meet or talk as planned, but plan again and again if necessary.Send him sweet notes that he's not expecting and pretty soon he will out of school and maybe things will slow down to a crawl then. 11/2 years isn't very long at all when you think about the long future you may have together.Remember he will be be missing you too. As they say,"grin and bear it." Believe me, it will pass quick.

Your direction, not your intention, determines your destination
