What is required for a foreigner to invest in US stocks, if this is possible at all -- would the answer depend on what country I'm coming from? Thanks.
Yes and no, you can not buy YOURSELF stock in a U.S stock exchange, because you need to be a U.S citizen to be a U.S stock broker. But there are many foreigners who own, buy, and sell stock and even full companies it the U.S stock exchange. They just use an American brokers company or bank, it is really easy and it can be done trough most international banks.
It can not be done in countries which the U.S is currently embargoing (Iran, Cuba, etc.) but even then you can contact a Swiss bank who can laundry the money for you.
Set up an account with any of the big online brokers and it'll be easy for you to buy US stocks.
Try OptionsXpress for a start.
