I am appalled at the media for harassing Nancy Pelosi about if or when she knew that the Bush administration was illegally torturing inmates. How could that possibly be more important than WHO (the former Bush administration) was illegally torturing people? If the media thinks torture is so wrong, why aren’t they going after the people who were actually responsible for the torturing?  The people of America should be outraged at the fact the Bush administration lied to get us into a war that created hundreds of “Osama Bin Ladens” who want to blow us up and then Cheney goes on TV saying they kept the country safe. What hypocoristic, not to mention stupidity. Torturing Muslims creates more terrorists, it does not keep the country safe.

I agree with you that turning Nancy Pelosi into the villain for the Bush/Cheney torture policy is absurd. But unless you are watching Fox News, it's basically the GOP trying to set up a smokescreen about Pelosi more than the media.

Nancy Peloci is the great deception and will kill America's moral values. It has already happened. She will get away from all the wrong she has done. think about it what has she done for America?  Besides pointing the finger at every one that opposes her, hypocritcs always do this. now she has been caught liying. finaly America needs to see the truth. How many years will people like you let our enemies torrment America. Hugging the enemy will only get a knife in your back. PS NOW SHE IS MAD AT THE MEDIA WHO REPS. AMERICA WATCH HOW SHE GETS BACK.  THINK RASING TAXES FOR EVERYONE!

I agree with maderight007. Couldn't have said it better Pelosi doesn't know what the truth is. She just likes to play dumb for her convience and will continue passing the buck.

I am appalled at wimpy little deilicts who have the gall to call us the bad guys. Who the hell do you "citizens " think you are. They killed 3000 Americans who in the blank cares what happens to them. If you are so afraid of those SOB's go kiss their unwashed butts in the desert. It's your ungreatful selves our guys are trying to save. Wow do I hope I just peeved some one off......and if I did Too bad candy cane. This is why I do my democrat duty every morning. I feel better. Oh and sweetie pie left....I am not budging so just post empty notes.

Billie,

Let's see if I got this straight.  You are appalled at the media for harassing Nancy Pelosi?  You are outraged at the Bush Administration for lying?  You think torturing Muslims creates terrorists that are on the same level as Osama bin Laden?  Is that a good summary?

To take apart the first item, why is it ok for Nancy Pelosi to lie?  Isn't the job of the "Fifth Estate" to shine the light on wrongdoings by our elected officials?  If your not familiar with the term, the "Fifth Estate" is the media, traditionally it was a euphamism for the print media.  As I see it, Ms. Pelosi is digging her own hole all by herself, and doing a grand job of it.  Remember back when she thought she was a theologian of Catholic Church dogma by misqouting Auquinas?  I thought she was treated pretty mildly considering how badly she misrepresented what the Church Father had really qouted.  And if you look at her other blunders, the media has been pretty forgiving of her too frequent gaff's.  The fact that she's been a ferocious critic of Pres. Bush and all that he did, don't you think it's important that she at least be able to tell the truth about when she knew?

The uproar over this particular issue is because she was and is so publicly critical over the methods used to gain information (I do find torture to be a very ugly word, and not at all descriptive of what we did to the prisoners) that was considered vital to the immediate safety of the American people (that would include you if you are a US citizen), but which she overlooks because after all, she's the Speaker of the House and a member of the opposing party, so really, her job must be to take whatever pot shots she can at a lame duck President.  Really, it's about honesty and integrity.  She takes every opportunity to pounce on Pres. Bush's lies, and yet when her own integrity is questioned, she's being harrased.  Double standards anyone?

Your second point, being outraged over the President lying to us. Duh, there's a no brainer.  Yes, he lied about some things, but not all.  Should we demand more?  Certainly.  Do we?  Well, look at who got re-elected in the last go around.  Until we (I know, I say this all the time here) demand more from those we elect, whether it's city councilman or the President, we are going to continue to get garbage.  You don't like how your representative is voting?  Find someone else who will do the job with more character and substance.  That's the only way it's going to change.

As to your third point, PLEASE, the dramatics are killing me (no such luck, I'm being dramatic to make a point).  Osama bin Laden is highly educated, came from a well to do family, and has yet volunteered to be a suicide bomber (I'm hoping some day he does).  He's a smart guy that brought order and sophistication to Al Queda, which is what made them so succesful.  Of course now he's hiding in the hills, and probably will spend the rest of his life doing so, which is some bit of justice I guess.  But the idea that those who are or were in custody have become radical terrorists willing to order many to their graves is a bit of a stretch.  For the most part, those who were released and rejoined Al Queda were already members.  Believe it or not, our intelligence communities do occasionaly get it right.  Yes, there were or have been some innocents that were gathered with the garbage, and I think we owe them something for making such a tremendous blunder, but please, get a clue.  There's really not that many folks willing to die at someone's command because of some ideological slogan.  The one thing about suicide bombers, there's not really a big pool to draw from, which is a good thing.

Tony
PS., I personally think that Ms. Pelosi is being treated with kid gloves.  When Newt signed a book deal people were calling for his head on a pike!

For starters, the term for the media is fourth estate, the fifth estate has been used to describe those opposed to mainstream media

Secondly, Nancy Pelosi is just one of a number of people who have said the CIA's statements on briefing them are wrong. Others are Rep. David Obey and  Bob Graham, a former chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Graham told NPR  "I'm not impressed with the credibility of the CIA as it was being led in 2002. I think it had become an agency that instead of following the admonition to speak truth to power, it was trying to speak what it thought power wanted to hear."

Graham said the CIA gave him incorrect information about three occasions when he was supposedly briefed on waterboarding, around the same time when the CIA  presented the senate with an estimate  on WMDs in Iraq, an estimate later found to contain seriously flawed information.

In his book, "At the Center of the Storm," George Tenet, CIA director at the time, has admitted to being part of fabricating lies about links between Al Quaeda and Iraq and pumping up evidence about WMDs which Bush/Cheney used to drag us into war.

Tenet also writes that he warned Condoleeza Rice in July 2001 of imminent multiple, spectacular attacks against the United States and suggested preemptive strikes against Afghanistan. But Rice pawned the information off on subordinates because she was part of an administration focused on finding a way to justify invading Iraq. After 9/11, they had their excuse, just find a way to connect Saddam Hussein with Osama bin Laden in the public's mind. (In 2007, a Pentagon-sponsored study of 600,000 captured Iraqi documents found no operational connection between the two. )

The attempts to take the spotlight off  the former administration's lies by pointing the finger at Nancy Pelosi, claiming she knew about waterboarding and didn't object to it, would be laughable if the subject wasn't the use of torture and, even worse, using it to try to get people to confess to a non-existent link between Al Quaeda and Iraq

The whole Nancy Pelosi flap is nothing but a red herring designed to change the subject. The question is not what did Nancy know and when did she know it but what did Bush and Cheney do in violation of the Constitution, why did they do it and what can be done to ensure no administration ever does it again.

And this about face administration is THE ones to do just that........see that no administration does it again. Maxsmom..I agree to disagree with you. (Of personal note I answered your question on the coin. I hope it helped:)   )

Silver,  I am not a fan of having one party control the White House and both branches of Congress, I thought it was a problem when it was George W. Bush  and the GOP and I feel that way now that it's Barack Obama and the Democrats.

I think this whole Pelosi thing is like so much so much of what's being focused on by politicians  on both sides and much of the media now, simply distractions from the real problems we desperately need to address, such as the economy
