The flowering almond tree, while called a tree, is actually a medium-sized shrub that gardeners adore because of its gorgeous flowers. In early to mid spring the flowering almond breaks out in a proliferation of tiny pink blossoms.

It differs from nut-producing almond trees in two ways: it does not actually produce nuts, and it is smaller than an almond tree, which can reach heights of 25 feet. Flowering almond reaches a height of 8 to 10 feet. Its smaller size makes it a great choice for perennial gardens and as decorative borders.
