The instructions below will show you how to manually back up your PFC. Once you have saved the Data Folder to the desktop, you can either copy the files onto a CD or a USB drive.

How do I manually create a backup copy of my Personal Filing Cabinet?

To copy your PFC onto a CD or USB, insert either option and right-click on the Data Folder you just saved on your desktop and click Copy. Then, just paste the folder in the CD or USB drive.

The instructions in the help article below will show you how to transfer your PFC from one computer to another. These instructions are for if you have emailed the folder, so just insert the CD or USB that has your PFC saved on it and follow the instructions in the article from Step 5 (saving on the Desktop).

Download the saved email data file on the other computer

Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Thanks for the help so far.  I've done as indicated and now have transfered to Organize the 305mb file. However, when I open AOL, then click on "Saved on my PC" then "Incoming/Saved Mail" ... there is nothing there.  Is there something else I should do?  The 305mbs are on my harddrive under the correct screen name ... Thanks in advance ... getting close to getting this solved!!

Hi, Tom: I'm happy to hear that the steps have worked so far. To upload your PFC files on your mail account, please follow the help article below. Start at Step 7 (signing in to AOL Desktop) then follow until finished.

Merge PFC files

Please let me know if this works.

Rachel:  Almost there.  Made it to Step 12 - 13.  Couldn't see the example for step 12, so don't know where the window comes from shown in Step 13 that points the file to open ... what do I do next?  Thanks ... Tom

Have you clicked Create Folders within Saved on My PC on your Mail window? Once you do that, name the folder (whatever you are comfortable with) in Name New Folder: box, then click Save. The new folder will appear under Saved on My PC.

Next, click File then click Open. Locate your old PFC that you saved on your desktop. Drag that file to the new folder you made under Saved on My PC. Make sure that the files are dropped in the folder, not the window.

Please let me know if this helps you.

Thanks Again Rachel.  I have Named a new folder (PFC From Old PC), put when I click file and Open, I can see my PFC file which I highlight and then click open in the bottom right corner of the page.  It then opens another window called C\users\tp\documents\XXXXX.PFC (the xx's is not my actual file name.  The window seems to contain all my favorite places, but at the bottom of the last favorite place it does show my Incoming/Saved mail (and under that file you see each of the msgs - some back to 2004) and Mail You've Sent (all msgs back to 2006).  However, can't drag and drop from this window to the PFC on Mailbox?  So not sure where I'm suppose to be dragging the PFC file after "File"  "Open"?  Sorry for being a pain, but thanks for being patient with me ...  Tom

Is there an error message that comes up when you try to drag and drop the files?

If you cannot move the entire folder, you can either drag and drop each item one by one. Or, you can try holding Shift and clicking on multiple files then dragging and dropping.

I am happy to help! Please let me know if this works.

Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner.  I'm in the process of moving to another state and just haven't time to check and see if there was an error message, or if dragging one file at a time works.  Once things get back to normalcy I'll try again.  How log will these posts stay in the community?  Thanks ... Tom
