You can go to a bank or a money exchange.

You can exchange money at the bank or exchange places.  If you are exchanging at the bank, you get a bit better rate if the funds are exchanged electronically instead of cash-for-cash.  Once you have transferred between (say Canadian to US account) two currency accounts, then you can withdraw cash that way.

I am from the Detroit area and I always exchandged my money at a local bank.  If your bank dosen't have the currency go to the nearest Federal bank.  Stay away for the currency exchanges around the borders the will not give the best rate. Call you local bank and ask them if the can assist you.  Good Luck
