Discuss Repartee's answer to: Did you ever get a hamster as a pet? How old were you? I am wondering how old should a kid be before being able to take care of a hamster.

I had my first hamster when I was 8. I think they are great pets for kids. They are pretty easy to care for, and they give kids a sense of being responsible for something other than themselves.
