i like to take my dwarf hamster outside when its about 70 degrees. when he gets outside though, he sits there for a minute as if he was stunned. once he gets going though, he loves to chew on the grass, run through it, and roll around in it.

our house isnt cold, but its not a sana, so about 65 degrees. any way, my family does not smoke so our 2 hamsters are living fairly well.

is this because of the sudden in/out temp or is it something else?

It might be because of light. Maybe his eyes just need a chance to adjust. Try taking him out under a tree in the shade.

he soes this because of the light and the sudden change in temp.. he is just getting used to it. as long as he still moves around like usual then he is ok.

I am sure his  nnatural instincts tell him he is  in  his  natural habitat    a place to burrow, smell real dirt,  smell  green  grass,   feel  rain  and wind onhis body  being caged up  maybe in a  smoky house is not  his liking but most  hamsters have no choice. maybe you can  build a   circular fence  right on top of the grass and let him stay there for hours with a shelter maybe a cardboard  box..
