Ethis woman knows alot.. For me  i would  go  pro ..  I am vvvery allergic to flea 's   the bites are  horrific.. Anyway  go pro and maybe get rid of carpet  as they love it  and  do those flea drops on back of neck for dogs  if that is what you have  they do work..I can say  for sure.. Good luck... Ann

Laurie - I've never heard that it is dangerous to give a dog a flea bath then apply Frontline.

Are we both talking about the same type of bath(not a pro-flea dip-type)? The shampoos have no warnings against Frontline or similar products on the label!!! YIKES!

What kinds of reactions do one or the other, (or both) cause and what brands of pet store flea shampoos are safe, then?

Almost ever vet that I've talked to about flea treatment/prevention on a dog, recommends Frontline over flea collars and flea baths for immediate relief. What am not getting?

.....Our first dog, many years ago, had just a couple fleas(I was about 9 or 10) and we caught it without the dog getting sick however,  had to temporarily move out of the house, have it fumigated, threw out everything we couldn't wash(I agree with JKG because we did get to keep carpet that was in only in room, although we kept the dog off of it until we were sure the pros got all the fleas, which they did). It was a lot of work - those things are nasty !

We now regularly use flea and mosquito sprays outside and Frontline + heartworm preventions.

Why wouldn't the shampoos have warnings? What makes Kirk's safe and able to kill fleas? And where do you get it? - I'm just trying to understand the risk you've noticed since products can change and I'm not familiar with the ones you mentioned.  (Our dog now doesn't have fleas or every had any and we like to keep as much at home ER things on hand, after that first ordeal!)

Also, is this for all dogs or those exposed to all outdoor greenery or soils that attract fleas or particular types of outdoor things? (I'd love to know incase we need to uproot anything cause it's a pain having to spray outside as soon as it the weather changes!)

Thanks.

(btw, how are your cats doing w/their diet change?)

Best,

YP

Regular shampoos don't interact generally speaking unless they are the so-called herbal flea fighters which have pyrthrines.  The rational behind applying Frontline and not giving a dog/cat/whatever a bath several days afterwards is that it needs time to get into the skin.  A bath performed too close to the application tends to negate it.  Better to give one before and make sure the pet is dry before applying the Frontline.  There are so many new grooming products and lines out there that the consumer really does have to do their homework.  So to reiterate, Bathe pet, dry, frontline.  While the pet is drying, bomb the house.  You also have to be really careful with all that pesticide use that it doesn't get into the soil or water and many people develop allergies to these as well.  Kirk's Coconut Castile soap, which is a bar soap can be ordered online if you can't find it in your local supermarket in the isle where they sell barred soaps, lol.  I had a heck of a time getting it and found the company on line and ordered a case of it.

Love is the law.

Yeah, I never heard of that soap.

The pesticide is one that is pet friendly. You can get them at major pet stores. You're not supposed to spray areas where a dog/cat/other would walk on so they're pretty safe, if used correctly.

You didn't say, though, how you're cats are, Laurie - better, I hope. Sealed

One natural remedy to keep fleas off your cats-Brewers Yeast Tabs. And a big plus, most love them like a treat.

My God is an Awesome God!

I have had that problem as well I use powder Boric Acid its safe for humans and pets . I sprinkle it on the carpet. You can find it  at any local dollar store

1. Take a bath and wash ur clothes and fabrics: fleas drown easily

2. Give your pet a bath with a product the kills fleas and flea eggs

3. Vaccum your carpets

My sheltie got feas really bad in 2004, my vet said they were probably inside so we got this stuff called Fea Maxx at his recomendation; I left it down for a day longer than it said to, when I vacumned it all up, no more fleas!  Borax is a natural flea-killer, but it has to be in a highly concentrated form & this stuff really worked.  Also essence of wormwood, or wormwood essential oil will kill fleas, a few drops on their collar, DON'T put it on pet where it can lick it, it can cause gastric distress.

I want to believe
