Which pet would YOU adopt?
Several years ago I heard a kitten crying in the rain.
She was on the back porch, mewing piteously. We dried her off, gave her some food, and heard some more piteous mewing.
There were three more starving kittens under the porch. I brought them all inside and dried them off. The towel was filthy once I was done: it was clear that they had been living in terrible conditions. Towels are easy to wash.
All had skin conditions, runny eyes, and upper respiratory conditions. The veterinarian gave them shots and soon they were healthy, happy companions. We put in a pet port so they could come and go (I certainly would not want to be locked up). They prefer to go outside for nature's calling to the use of a litter box, and when not so occupied they make a lapful of affection.
We have gained several other cats that way, all of whom were grateful for a little bit of food and the safety of a warm home. We make sure that they always get good care, good food, and have been spayed or neutered as the case may be.
We have had dogs also. They really are friendly spirits!
Considering the precious little a pet asks of us, and the great huge gift of love they make, being kind to animals makes all the sense in the world.
