Better to consult your vet first knowing these are two meds to be given in not so big dog so be ware of the dosage..

That is a vet question, because your vet may want him to be on a Diabetic Diet such as Science Diet D/D (DIabetic/Diet) or something like that

Treating Diabetese in a dog or cat is like treating it in a human, you really have to watch what they eat and not over or under feed them because of the insulin.  To much food could mean not enough insulin, to little food could mean to much insulin just like in a human, And I should know I've been a Diabetic all of my life and I have worked for a couple of vets where I help care for Diabetic dogs & cats
