Move personal file cabinet to new computer

I just switched to a new computer and want to transfer my personal file cabinet.  The old computer was running Windows XP and I was using AOL 9.0.  The new computer is running Windows Vista and AOL 9.1.

I saved the files in "backup" and in "organize" from the old computer, but can't figure out how to import them into AOL 9.1.  I cannot find an "import" option anywhere on the AOL desktop.

I figured out the answer myself after fiddling around with AOL mail awhile:

  1. on the old computer right click "saved on My PC" in the filing cabinet,
  2. select "save folder as" and pick a location and name (defalt name will be mail),
  3. saving it creates <name>.pfc in the selected directory,
  4. copy the <name>.pfc file to the new computer,
  5. right click "saved on My PC" on the new computer's personal filing cabinet and select "open saved folder",
  6. browse to the location of <name>.pfc and open it,
  7. you can then copy the mail into whatever folders you desire.  I created an new folder called "old mail" and under it the folders "received" and "sent".  Then I copied the old mail into the respective folders on the new computer.

It was obvious once I happened upon it, but I couldn't find it in any AOL help, and even google didn't turn up anything.

Hopefully this note will save some else some time and effort.

Thanks for the tip--it saved me a LOT OF HASSLE.  You would think that AOL would make this info readily available and easier; after all, millions upgrade to new computers every year.  Since the mail is stored on YOUR computer (not the server), you must transfer the files if you want the mail history.  Thanks, again.
