This is a generalization. There are many people who don't drink at all or who drink so rarely as to be able to count it on one hand.

If you are among people who find drinking to excess the best form of entertainment, then you either need to get new friends or consider joining Al-anon to get help in learning how to deal with the drinkers in your life.

I believe people drink to be socialed with others like friends and families. If you are talking about social drinking?I think it is like a personal time to let your body and mind relax and get involve with friends and families or just to relax from a long day of hard working.

Some people drink to escape reality. Drinking allows them to behave with less inhibition. It's not a good excuse but it is what it is.
