Will a puppy who had a case of Parvovirus and was treated get sick again if I leave her alone and her immune system goes down because of stress? Please only respond if you know something about the disease and are experienced.
If your puppy has survived Parvo, and is fully recovered, she cannot catch it again. In fact she will have lifetime immunity. You can find out more about Parvo here http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/canine-parvovirus.html
BUT, the recovery period is fairly lengthy, and your pup will be weakened and 'down' for several weeks. If she was to get very stressed during this time, it's possible that she could get sick in some other way. Coccidia for example is an infection that often flares up when a puppy's immune system is weak. Learn moe about Coccidia and other canine illnesses here http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/dog-illnesses.html
If at all possible, don't expose your pup to any extra stress, or to the possibility of catching another illness, until she is completely recovered, and fully vaccinated.
She's a lucky puppy to be a Parvo survivor. I wish you the best of luck with her.
Hi Joey, well your dog can still get sick from other things, but she should now have an immunity to the parvovirus. Stress can have a rather significant affect on an animals immune system. But if she's back to being a healthy puppy, you shouldn't really worry to much. And I think something like this, you really should be asking your veterinarian about, don't you.
