Hi I'm going to be a mommy for the first time. Would it be okay to name my first child, if a boy, after my father's name?

Hi Cindya,

First, congratulations! Next, I think that's a very nice idea and there's absolutely nothing wrong with naming your child after a relative. Just make sure that you and baby's father agree on which relative!

P.S. If your father's still living, it might be nice to run it by him, just in case he'd rather not have someone with his name running around after him. But if he's anything like my male relatives, he'll be proud and pleased that you chose to honor him in that way.

Best wishes to all of you!

Well, of course. Is there any reason why not?

Most grandparents consider that a great honor. It depends on what your tradition is. If it is alright with your father (and your husband), it's wonderful for your son to have that bond with his grandfather.
