It might be a good plan to look at a picture of one so you know what it looks like, then you could see what one is.  It's a flat bottom platform attached to  a couple of pontoons. (like on the bottom of a airplane that can land on water) I purchased mine for fishing. One can walk from dock to boat standing and not step down into a V bottom that rocks.

Elden,

The answer that I read was pretty much a great simple answer about the Pontoon Boat.  The description of the craft was simple but pretty much right on I might add just a couple of other things that are great about them.  At 65  years of age my sea legs aren't as great as they used to be either, and the pontoon boat is quite stable in the water.  Easy to get aboard and easy to walk around on.  Great for fishing and especially if you're taking grand-kids with you.  With the high sides it makes it safer to have little ones on.  Less chance on them falling over.  Of course nothing takes the place of Grand-pa ever vigilant eyes, but it helps.  If you are looking for an inexpensive, safe and stable craft for just having a great time on and being safe also, a pontoon boat is hard to beat.  In fowl weather they leave some to be desired for there is usually no where to get out of the weather so if the weather is not looking too great, stay in port.  Be safe and enjoy.
